Several folks have posted questions about what they should bring on the ride to make life more enjoyable. Some obvious items are chairs, ipods, a camera, etc. but I'd like to recommend a bike stand. I have brought my stand on every ride since '90 and it has worked out wonderfully. It holds the bike upright, with the rear wheel off the ground, so it not only stores your bike off the ground, but you can use the stand to clean the bike, lube the chain, and dry your towel over the top tube.

I just went by my LBS to see what is offered and I found several to choose from. The Hawley's catalog lists a "display stand" made by Summit, item #STOR6122. The QBP catalog has two: the DS0012 by Dimension and the DS3315 by Minoura. They work by hooking the downtube so make sure the one you get will fit your bike. I have one that fits a steel frame and another for the carbon Trek. I think Topeak makes one that folds down to fit in the palm of your hand. Most of the stands are under $20 and the Topeak is around $40.

How many times have I almost stepped on bikes lying on the ground as I stagger to the loo late at night! If you can't find a fence, try a bike stand.

Hey Don,
If you find the Topek one anywhere, let me know.  I have a great tent that has a vestibule large enough for my bike and my 2 bags but have yet to find a bike stand small enough to bring along.  Bought one and had to send it back as it was too big to fit in my duffel.
I'll look around on the web but would appreciate if you find it anywhere to post it.
Thanks, Ann

That's it! The Topeak Flashstand; very cool little device. I use the larger one and just put it in the bag and pack around it but the Topeak's cool factor is off the chart. A guy had one on Bike Florida and it worked pretty well, especially on harder ground.

Do you have room for two bikes in your vestibule?    biggrin

Don,
Why as a matter of fact the vestibule is quite roomie (MSR Velo tent).  For the right price - like setting up of said tent, the extra space is indeed rentable!
