For cyclists who may want to ride from Asheville south to Mt. Pisgah while coming up for CNC, you will need to have headlights for the tunnels. One particular tunnel tends to be long and curved which hampers visibility.
As you know, about a 3000 ft climb over 15 miles to Mt Pisgah. Be sure to eat and drink along the way. A nice ride for folks unfamilar with Asheville. Caution: There's more climb to Mt Pisgah than there will be in the entire first CNC day...
Nice restaurant at the top of the climb, check the BRP website to get its hours during Oct.

PS It doesn't matter whether you ride S or N on the BRP from Asheville, you've gotta serious climb. Heading north from Asheville past the Folk Art Center is also about 3000 ft in 17 mi to Craggy Gardens. Asheville sits at the gap at the bottom of the mtns. Thank you, French Broad River.
I live near the Parkway on the south side of Asheville so I frequently ride to Pisgah and back. Don't think of it as a 3,000 climb, consider it the start of a 3,000 foot descent..whee!
I do recommend the restaurant at the Pisgah Inn, but if you just need a snack or water there is also a camp store at the north end of the parking lot.
