over the past few months amanda and i have been trying to work out a seperate vegetarian meal plan.(i'm vegetarian!) unfortunately many of the caterers along the cnc route will not be able to incorporate some of the food options i suggested. some of the dinners do have vegetarian options,as well as the breakfasts, but not all. please be assured that amanda and the cnc staff put alot of effort into this and hope that you will sign up for the meals that do have vegetarian option.
Just a nickel's worth of free advice should you implement a vegetarian option: There should be some way of enforcing the meal delivery so that each rider gets the meal they ordered. What I mean is, having done a few of these tours in states that offered vegetarian options, most of the time, the vegetarian meals were far more appealing than the meat option and the meat eaters ate our vegetarian meals! Especially on hotter days, during the lunch stops, the carnivores would look at the ham sandwich or hot dog and decide that the vegetarian wrap and fruit cup seemed much more appealing and steal someone's lunch. I don't think I ever got the meals I ordered and paid for on another state's tour. By the time the first 100 riders came through the lunch stops, all the vegetarian meals were gone. NC runs an excellent, well organized ride and I'm hoping you folks can better enforce the meals. The other state tour tried to use a different color wrist bracelet to denote veggie eaters but it was poorly enforced and we vegetarians ended up having to stop along the route to find lunch elsewhere. Just something to think about......
as i mentioned, some of the meals have a vegetarian option, and usually when this is the case, there is always plenty of food for everyone, both veg and non-veg. if there is any doubt in your mind that you may not get vegie food that you signed up for, then it's best to eat out,and forego the meal plan. in the past i have found that there is plenty of food,(vegetarian)and i tend to go through the line a bit later than most riders. at this time cnc will not be offering an exclusive vegetarian meal plan, but that does not mean it won't happen in the future. we can always try again next year.
thanks for trying to get the vegetarian meal option to work. i know what a hard worker you are and i appreciate all you have done to try to get this off the ground. maybe next year...
unfortunately, i'm not gonna be able to ride cnc this year, my kids are getting too darn expensive! anyways, i'll miss you and am bumming about missing out on all the fun. be in touch if you get to the outerbanks. you all still have my email address.
