You might want to plan on really taking your time along Sunday's route in order to enjoy some great tourist attractions. Bat Cave/Lake Lure is halfway to Forest City, so it will make a great stop (you could easily spend several hours there) to have lunch (Malarky's Sports Bar on the Lake is a great place for sandwiches,etc.) and see the attractions. Chimney Rock Park (where Last of the Mohicans was filmed) is on the route where you can take a shuttle  to the top or walk along trails. Lake Lure Boat Tours  is about an hour long, and you can see where Dirty Dancing was filmed, plus look at some fabulous homes. Hope you'll make your Sunday ride a leisurely one.
