Greetings, I'm a two-year veteran of the CNC and have been riding the highways and byways of NC for 30 years.
My advice is: "don't sweat the actual elevations." This ride looks like it will be very similar to my first CNC (Boone to Oak Island). Maybe one or two "serious" climbs the first day and then the next few days we will be rolling through the Piedmont. There you can expect a lot of ups and downs with a mix of longish (1-2K) gradual climbs and short, sharp climbs. Nothing to sweat unless you're on a heart-lung machine
After Albemarle, when we hit the Coastal Plain, with all the strength you've developed in the foothills, you'll seriously be able to "hammer".
