I don't mind the camping but I sure don't want to do any cooking.

Scooter-

I did the ride 3 years ago.  I was sorry I signed up for the food option as people got on shuttles or walked to dinner.  You really don't save any money by signing up for the food option and you are guarenteed hot food when you go to a restraunt or fast food place.  Sometimes when you eat at the camp site, the lines were very long and the food wasn't hot by the time we were served.  I did not sign up for breakfast, but signed up for the coffee detail with muffin.  I loved having a good cup of coffee before the ride.  I don't think I'll get the muffin this year.  Usually, unless you're a big breakfast eater, if you grab a banana or power bar from a rest stop the day before for the next morning, that works.  The first rest stop is usually not more than an hour or hour and half away so I never felt the need for the big breakfast.  I was not aware that anyone 'cooked' their own meals.  I really don't think that is an option.  It's either sign up for the food option or find a restraunt when you get to the camp site.  They always provide shuttles.

Hey  the best way is to sign up for breakfast and just eat lunch along the way and for dinner just take the shuttle bus out somewhere to eat.....this is the best way that i have found.....

Review the menu on the site. Breakfast is pretty hard to foul up. I review the menu and pick a few days that are least appealing for dinner and use the shuttle service and eat out. Abermarle is a really good dinner, don't skip it. Sunday night in the bible belt could be a little tough to find a restaurant, consider eating at camp. Lastly, timing is everything when it comes to eating your meal in camp, don't be one of the sheep and follow the crowd.

Forget cooking. I've done all CNCs, never seen anyone cook, can't carry cookstove legally in your luggage. Verbotten.

If you regularily eat breakfast, buy the breakfasts. Hard to depend on breakfast very early in the morning along the road.

I eat lunch at teh rest stops, PB&J provided by CNC plus fruits. Some like to eat at restaurants along the way, that's cool, too.

For supper, buy it if the menu looks good and reasonable. Get there early, some caterers are inexperienced with how much cyclists will eat and may run out or substitute foods. I like to buy meals in town, get a little scenery and a cold beer, too. Cyclists will fill up all the restaurants in town.

Enter the camp address into Yahoo maps, and check out how far to restaurants. Some camps are remote to town, take another look at the catered menu or prepare to meet your fellow cyclists in the shuttle line.

Some hardcore folks ride into town on the bike, whatever works for you and the current state of your cycling muscles...

Thanks you guys!

I think the breakfast option and then dine at at nights sounds best.

Strong AMEN to Bob and Jack.

If you want a solid breakfast, you better order that meal. You usually won't find it convenient on the road. The muffin/coffee deal looks good if that will meet your needs but I'm a big breakfast person so haven't tried that part in my six previous CNCs.

Dinner is usually better in the towns through the shuttle. I choose by menu and price. If dinner is over about $9.50, I know I can do better in town, and I won't have to eat it in the rain, or cold.

As Jack said, it is hard to cook without stove or fuel and neither is allowed on baggage trucks, busses, or inside buildings.
