The 2006 CNC should be in the center corridor of the state. In 04 we did the Northern Route and In 05 we did the Southern Route, therefore, in 06 lets do Marion to Harkers Island. We could visit cities like Marion, Lenoir, Lexington, Siler City, Dunn, Kinston, New Bern, and end at Harkers Island.
How about ending up on the Currituck Outer Banks(Corolla)? Start in Marion, revist Lexington, visit Siler City ,revisit Sanford, visit Wilson, revisit Edenton or Elizabeth City, then Corolla? Nothing against Carteret County or Harkers Island, but CNC came this way in 1999/2001. New Bern, Oriental, Wilmington(2x), Oak Island are really southern or central NC beach destinations and have gotten their share to date. Or perhaps just doing a northern tier all the way across NC, ending in Corolla? Anyway I'll be there in 2006.
How about starting in SPRUCE PINE instead of Marion? While Tom Johnson's is nice, the Pinebridge Center in Spruce Pine might be good since it is a large arena, is surrounded by hotels, and provides a spectacular ride down into Morganton, Lenoir, etc.
As far as towns in the Piedmont, how about Chapel Hill? Perhaps the prettiest town in NC, and the highest per capita consumption of beer.
As to an ending town, Corrola is a tough pull if you start this far West. Perhaps Emerald Isle or, for those of us who love the military, Camp LeJeune. HooRah! (I've group camped there - - absolutely no logistical problems at that location!)
I hope the CNC Staff is reading this. I love any place that ends up near or at one of NC many Lighthouses.
If we ended the ride @ corolla we would have a nice ferry ride out to the Currituck Light House.
If we ended at Harker Island then there is the Cape Lookout Light House. Of course there is a 20 to 30 min. boat ride out to the cape. I would compare this to an "E" ride at Disney World. I got bouced around pretty good on the way out. But once I got there and PUSHED my bike through the sand and set up my camp for the night on the ocean side of the island (Core Banks) the stars were beautiful that night.
I bet the logistis would be a bear on something like this.
Yep, CNC staff read a very similar post/string last year and it resulted in CNC 2005. I would love to end at Harkers Island also (it may coincide with the "Core Sound Decoy Festival"), but we would need to start somewhere East of the "really big" mountains say, Statesville . . . .
As to your other post, if you really need bAD dOGS number(s), just send me an Email at david_davis@ncwd.uscourts.gov. I knew that CSX train that passed me today on my ride was missing something.
