I prefer to ride with good sized groups of riders both for companionship and also for relative safety from the cars. Does it normally happen that riders start out in groups or do they filter off one by one so to speak? Thanks....
i'm pretty much a loner when i ride. i like it that way. no one to bump in to, and i dont really like to draft. but anyways, one thing i like about the cnc ride is that they pick the quietest roads in the state. traffic really wasnt that much of an issue. i was amazed, cause getting run over was my major concern. also, there are so many cyclists on the road during the ride, that drivers are pretty much clued in to watching out for us.
one thing, last year, the only injuries i saw involved cyclists who had wrecked in a paceline.
to answer your other question, last year i noticed some people started out in groups, some just formed pacelines as the ride went along.
if you want to ride in a group, i'm sure you will find one.
There are so many riders of so many different abilities and with so many different opinions on what kind of ride they want to do (slow, leisurely, enjoying the rest stops to fast hammer-heads racing to the finish) that you are bound to find others you are compatible with.
You'll have no trouble finding others to start the ride with on the first morning. If they turn out to be too fast they'll drop you, if they are too slow, hook onto a line that passes you at a better pace.
After an hour or two you should be able to settle in with a group that's a good fit. Talk to them. Get to know them. Perhaps discuss riding the rest of the day together (form up after an agreed-upon break at each rest stop). Perhaps you'll all start talking about meeting at a specific time for dinner and/or to start the next day's ride. Otherwise, start the process again the next morning and meet some more folks.
