I'm nearing completion of my blog from CNC 2006.  Unfortunately I had to abandon on Thursday after the ride to Smithfield due to serious gastro-intestinal problems (probably food poisoning).

Enjoy.  Feel free to say hi in my guest journal

Bruce....

Thanks for going to the effort and producing an interesting journal;  I was really looking foreward to following the ride;  I rode the 1st four years, but have been sidelined since due to health issues related to diabetes.  Thanks a lot.  Your noting the blind girl on the tandem and also the fellow from Miami riding with one arm was especially moving.  One of the rides I was on had a rider in a special wheelchair that he propelled using only his arms.  Hope everyone on the ride was well and safe, and also hope everyone out there is fully aware of how lucky they are.  Thanks again Bruce.   Robert G in Tenn

Bruce,

Sorry to hear that you had to pull out early on CNC ... hope you are feeling better.  Enjoyed your journal and pics.  One correction ... Tracy (not Linda) deals with the vision loss from being hit by a truck while cycling.  Hope to see you on future rides.

Safe cycling,

L & T

Sorry - I knew that!  I'll have to check and correct my Blog!

You two set a great example and I know that you will inspire others!  It was wonderful meeting you.

Really enjoyed your pictures and the way they were composed. Question. What type of camera did you use? Digital or throw-a-way?

Gee - I haven't visited this web page in a while..  sorry it's taken so long to respond!

Thanks for your compliments.

I use a sub-compact digital, the Canon PowerShot SD400 Digital Elph camera.  I picked this camera specifically for it's small size, solid metal construction, and photo quality for a cycling tour of Tuscany Italy my wife and I enjoyed in 2003.  I carry it in a cell phone holder strapped to my CamelBak shoulder strap so I can readily grab it - even when I'm riding.  I have a 512 MB CompactFlash card so that even on highest quality/largest size I can get lots and lots of photos, because there are many lousy ones for each good one.

I clean up the photos with Microsoft Digital Image Pro (e.g. rotate and auto-correct lighting, color, and contrast).
