I"m hoping some are still checking in on this chat.

I'd like to do a spring ride in 2007 and then come back in the fall for CNC.  I"m wondering how other rides compare.

Specifically:  How is the CNC spring ride?

What about the Georgia spring ride?

Finally, has anyone done the Bike Florida ride.  In 2007 it's in March.  It's quite a bit more expensive, I noticed.  I wondered how it compared as far as organization, routes, support, etc!

Wow, what a deal CNC is!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right - Cycle North Carolina is a great deal compared to other rides.  I've done Bike Florida several times.  It's a good ride, but Cycle North Carolina's organization, routes, scenery, fees, etc. are much better.

I have done CNC Spring for the last 3 years (ALL) If you enjoy the CNC fall ride, then you will love the Spring Retreat. It's just like the 7 day cross state ride except you don't have to break camp everyday and pack up . They have several loop rides that range from 10 miles to 60+ miles. You can just hang out around town or explore the country side. If you take off on one of the long routes and later decide you just don't feel like doing the big miles today, well just turn around and head back. Your tent will be there waiting for you. It's a good feeling knowing you don't have to peddle all day to get to your luggage. Oh! One more thing! Chances are you have a car if you need to go somewhere. Take Care. Yall come and see us this Spring.

Bike FL is a nice opportunity to get some early miles in.  IMO the overall organization is not up to the level typical of CNC but it's tolerable.

Note that this year (2007) the fee for Bike FL INCLUDES the food plan unlike previous years when the food plan was optional.

I've ridden the Wisconsin ride  (GRABAAWR) the last week of June the last couple of years.

It's really a nice ride, great scenic rural route, generally low traffic, and generally follows the Wisc River from its start at the Michigan state line down to where it dumps into the Mississippi River.

Has been taken over by new operators for 2007 so I don't know how it will compare to past years, but I've really enjoyed it.

How does the Bike Florida ride compare to CNC relative to the routes, the camp sites, SAG support, entertainment, massage/shower trucks/food, etc.?  That looks like one of the earliest rides as well...

Thanks for your comments!

Having done both BikeFL and CNC 5 times, I'll stick my neck out and say that overall they are similar but different.  FL is early in the season and a great way for us snowbirds to get a jump on early season mileage. On the other hand, IMHO the FL scenery cannot compare with the beauty of NC in Oct.  FL is flat (good for those out of shape legs) but the headwinds can be brutal.  If I had my druthers, I'll take hills over headwind.

I would rate the general support/logistics/entertainment overall as close to equal - again similar but different.  All the same elements are there - same vendors, same shower trucks, etc.  I do not think the BikeFL Organization is quite as capable as NCAS/CNC's but not sure if that's truly due to their capability or if they purposely choose to run a little looser event.  Neither is good or bad - just different.

I'm not sure which one I would pick if I had to choose one over the other.  So why pick, do them both.

I've done over 20 week long rides including Cycle NC twice

Rides I consider better run  than NC include TRIRI , Ride the Rockies

 and CANDISC (ND)

At $125  CANDISC is a bargain  its  better run than many rides charging over twice that amount.

If you want to stick to East   Bike VA is on par with Cycle NC

I have ridden several Bike Florida rides, and all the CNC rides except the first one. CNC is much better organized. The cost of Bikefla this year is ,in my opinion, "too high". It's a good early season ride, but there are other options.

This year will be my last  Fla. ride if they insist that the meals are included in the price. Part of my fun when riding cross state rides is finding food along the route, and I don't eat institutionalized breakfasts.  Also, you can only register this year for the Fla. trip using Active, with an $18.95 fee. Way, way, way too much.

The Bike Fla. folks have taken a fairly decent ride, and really messed it up. Let us hope that good ole CNC keeps it real.

I've also ridden RAGBRAI 10 times, several  Great Peanut rides, BRAG, part of bike 2000 and many, many, many weekend rides. CNC is really  well organized and priced in a relastic realm.

Stay safe, keep the rubber side down, and I'll see you on CNC.

it sound like to me that  cnc  is to cheap and needs to go up on the price  from the way everybody is talking.

The Florida ride is usually on my schedule, but I will be skipping it this year for several reasons: cost is too high, food plan is mandatory, online registration is mandatory with an additional fee of $18.95,and the route isnt as scenic as other routes in state. Instead, I am planning to do the CNC spring ride this year. Edenton is a great town and CNC always puts on a great event, even when the weather is bad.
