hi Everybody

i'm looking for some info on places to eat near where we will be camping each night. anyone out there from any of the host towns? it would be great if you could give us the inside scoop on places to eat near where we will be camping. that would help me choose which meals to order off the meal plan.

i am especially interested in vegetarian food. grocery stores would do in a pinch. i know lil Washington use to have a chinese takeout across the street from the park at the river. something like that would be right up my alley.
thanks!

Hi -

My husband and I have a bike-friendly B&B in Bath and will out there showing support when you ride through our town. There are a few restaurants not far from the camping area in Washington. Main Street, down by the waterfront has some good places - everything from our favorite for finer dining - The Curiosity Shoppe (on the fancier, pricier end) to The Meeting Place for good lunches (closes mid-afternoon). There are a couple coffee shops and a good steak restaurant called Riverwalk Steaks by the bridge. And if you like barbeque there's Hog Heaven just a ways up 264. Have a great ride! -Kae

In Rocky Mount, if the shuttle busses run there, there is a shopping mall (2 to 3 miles from the camp site)that has a chinese place in the food court and across the road there is an Italian place called Moma's (I think) that probably has vegitarian meals. I have not been there lately but I hear the anitpasta is quite good. Also a Ryan's Steak house near there too. And there is a Gardners barbcue place that has a buffett with a good selection of veggies if you like home style.

Maureen-

I realized that I didn't answer your question about vegetarian food. I don't think that Chinese take-out is there any longer across from the park in Washington. There's a place there that was an ice cream shop and is now for sale. Most of the downtown restaurants have some options if you aren't vegan (except the steak place, of course).

See my post on lunch in Washington.  We'll have vege offerings and hope to see you.  Plus we can help with suggestions for dinner.  Have a good ride.  The weather's going to be great!
