Hi, I am planning a 106 mile ride over 3 days to celebrate my 50th birthday.  My route will start in New Bern, travel to ?Bayboro, south to Oriental (all on NC 55) over to Minnesott, to Scotts store and back to New Bern.  We are leisure riders and need to know if there are restaurants and accommodations on that route.  Thanks for taking a moment to help me.  traveler

HWY 55 is not a good road to ride a bicycle on.

There are place to eat in Bayboro, Arapahoe and Oriental (eat at M&Ms) with a motel and B&Bs in Oriental.

I would love to ride with you. That is a pretty area to ride in. Several years ago I rode through this area solo and self contained and I long to do it again. Well enough about me. There is a good set of maps put out by the NCDOT Bicycling Program. This set is called "Ocracoke Option" These maps contain alot of infomation you seek. The best part is that they are free. Call 919-733-2804 and have them to mail them to you. Also ask for the "Mountain to the sea" maps

Visit http://www.ncdot.org/transit/bicycle/ for some map info.  If you can get some MS150 route maps they may help find some lower traveled areas.  Happy Birthday!

The New Bern MS 150 route we followed on Saturday 9/11 was in the same general area. Here's a link to map and cue sheet. It might be of some help to you.
