Need some training tips.  I am 63 and have been a recreational/weekend rider for about ten years.  I have completed several 100 mile rides (Bridge to Bridge) but have never ridden for six days in a row.  After the 100 mile rides, I avoided looking at my bicycle for weeks.  So, how do I approach training for this ride?  What am I trying to get in shape, my legs or my rear end?  What should I be doing the last three weeks prior to the ride to ensure that I can complete the ride without suffering too much?  Any suggestions on a training schedule would be appreciated.

I have used the CNC training guide and you can find that on the web.  That seemed to work for me.  I followed that training schedule for a few of my rides, such as the Tour de Moor, and it proved very effective.

There is a small group of us from Lenoir that have done about 4 of these. Let me know if you would like to ride and we will be happy to give you any limited knowledge we might have. But most of all we would just like to ride. We will not be doing the whole ride this year, too many vacation days tied up taking the little one to Disney World in September. I am looking forward to and saving up the Vacation Days for the rumored 2 week Murphy to Manteo ride next year.

Hope this isn't a repeat but it looks like my first try didn't take.If you are in condition for Bridge to Bridge, you should have no problems on CNC. (I have done all eight previous CNCs.)  Your legs should be up to it. Getting in enough sadle time for your butt to take it comfortably for seven days in a row can be more of a problem.  A new bike with carbon fiber fork and stays, plus a suspension seat post, has postponed my usual beginning of discomfort until about the middle of the 6th day but it still happens. (Previously, discomfort usually started the morning of the 5th day.) (-:As a 61 year old non-retiree it is hard to get in enough butt toughining time. Maybe I need a bike seat that will fit my office chair.  Anyway, given your Bridge to Bridge type experience, butt toughining would probably be a more appropriate concern than worrying about other physical conditioning. (-:
