Need some advise on how to keep the bike dry overnight, I tried plastic bags but the handlebars and seat still get wet. What do you all do, use or recommend. Thank folks!
A true bike cover would be nice but I don't have one so I just use one of those elaticized pie plate covers to protect the seat and just let the rest get wet. (My bike is mostly carbon fibre and alluminium alloy so hopefully rain doesn't hurt too much.) I do carry a small bottle of "White Lightening" chain lube to retreat the chain after a rainy day or wet night. Hopefully, only one week outside without a good cleaning and drying will not give rust enough time to start on the susceptable parts.
Susan-- Last year I carried one of those blue tarps you can buy at any hardware store and two bungee cords. The tarp was like 8' x 12'. It worked very well to cover the entire bike, bungee cord it so it stayed on all night, and then just shake the water off & fold it up in the morning and put it in an outside pocket of my luggage. It worked very well keeping my bike dry, it folded up very small, and was very cheap. I was suprised how much dew there was each morning and never once had to deal with wet chain or seat. Give it a try! sh
Rain poncho, Army Navy surplus store. The poncho can work as a cover when it's not raining for bike and if it does really start raining the bike will get wet anyways but you can use it for yourself. I have one that is of a nylon type with grommets so it can be easily bungied. Covers the whole bike.
