Hello everyone!


I wanted to let all of you know that I have decided to resign my position as VP at NCAS effective Dec 31.  As VP (Director of Events) for NCAS, I have been director of CNC since it's beginning in 1999.  It has been a privilege to lead all of you on trips through the years and I am honored that you all put your trust in me to run a good event.  I have had tons of fun on the ride and will take with me many fond memories, although many of them rain soaked. 


As my family has continued to grow, we now have a 3 yr. old girl (Mackenzie) and a 5 mo. old boy (Logan), the amount of hours and time away from home required to manage CNC, State Games, and other NCAS events, have become difficult.  The new oppotuntities that I will be pursuing will allow me more flexibiliity and present new and exciting challenges.


Some of you will hear from me again, and I will see some of you on the road - hopefully more flexibility will allow for me to get some more time on the bike and doing other enjoyable things. 


One of the things I am working on before I leave is to finalize the route for 2005, and it is turning out to be a very nice route.  There will be announcements about the route very soon on our web site and via email.

Having worked for two Olympic Games (Sydney 2000 & Salt Lake 2002), I like to think I have a good perspective on sporting events, and those who run them. Working with my friend, Mike “The Director” Caleen, on CNC 2002, 2003 and 2004 (wow) has been an experience as fun and challenging as either of my jobs with the Olympics, I have to say. CNC is a difficult, but rewarding event, not only for the riders, but for the event staff as well. Mike always pulled it together, though, making the week a success and leaving us all with great memories. So, thank you, Mike, for having me tag along on your tours, I’ll miss hanging-out with you by the RV fridge after the day was done, but won’t miss you leaving me all alone loading bikes on the truck by myself at the 2004 finish in Oriental.


 


Oh yeah… Amanda, you definitely have a big act to follow… of course, we all know you’re up to it…

Mike,


Wow, that caught me totally off guard.  Happy for you though if it will mean more time with family.


First as a rider, then as a vendor, I have come to love CNC.  CNC 2002 was my first event PAMPERING and you Mike allowed it all to happen.  For that, I owe you much.


Through all the wet and cold days, CNC has become a great fall event.  I am sure Amanda will carry that on just fine.


Mike, again from being a rider and now a vendor, thank you so much for all you have done.  Our friendship is something that will continue what ever your carrer path takes.


See you on the road.

     You and your staff were one on the primary reasons I rode C.N.C.  I have seen how a ride can drastically change with a new director.


     If it were not a valid reason for your leaving, I would give you grief for it (in a fun sense of the word). 


     Remember, you have a few thousand friends in the cycling community now.

It's good to see you sticking up for your family, man. You got your priorities right. But your extended family- those of us who do not live with you but do ride with you- are gonna miss ya big time bad.


You've charted us across NC 6 times, beginning with nothing in 1999. CNC was like the starship Enterprise, "To boldly go where no one has gone before." That was us, dude. We who have traveled along the way will be eternally grateful to you for that.


I will treasure my Mike Caleen autographed, 1999 CNC Rider's Handbook even more than ever. You are the man, Mike, you are the man.


Amanda, how can we help?


Mike, don't forget the boys and girls from the old 'hood once you get into the new digs. We still wanna hear about you and the family from time to time, so drop a post on the BB, OK???

i'm not quite sure how to put this into words!


you hired me 4 years ago  with only a phone conversation when i called to see if cnc needed workers. with my cycling experience you hired me on to work signage,and with what i thought might only be a one time gig,turned out to be for 4 years!  they have been 4 great weeks and i've enjoyed each and every year, each and every route and especially the time i have been able to spend with you to get to know you! you have sacrificed so much of your time to keep cnc interesting and challenging, remembering everyone from the cyclists, vendors,volunteers and staff. i can see how dedicated you are to this event.


i will miss working along side of you and i want to thank you for that opportunity.


best of luck to you and your family. i'm happy you will be able to spend more time with them .

Mike,


Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to make Cycle NC a great ride.  Because of your efforts I:
First rode my bike in the rain, intentionally!
Rode in under 40 deg temperatures (28 deg. in fact!)
Took the first chance at riding multiple days, high miles at the time...
Met lots of new close friends, met a great girlfriend, wore a superman outfit, wore a dress (!) - don't laugh, I have your picture with me in it! - and had some of the best, extended, life changing times of my life. 


WOW!  Thank you sooo MUCH!  Thanks also to the CNC staff you trained to take over when you are gone. There are some big shoes to fill there.  Best of luck to you in you future endeavors.  With this ride on your resume, you will be a quality assest to anyone who hires you in the future.

     Just got back to the message board  and was surprised.  Fully respect your decision regarding family.  That is time that you can't replace.  I've only done the ride for the last two years but want you to know the job you and your staff has done has been greatly appreciated.  Wish you well in whatever your future brings.  As previous said, Godspeed.

Thanks for all the kind words.  The rides we organized were good because of the people who participated - you guys are the best.  I hope to see all of you on the ride next year.  I plan to ride atleast a day or two.  I am not sure I can get away for the whole thing.  See you on the road!

I've been on this ride every year (excepting last summer when I was on The Big Ride Across America) and I can safely say your dedication and hard work were some of the main reasons that Cycle North Carolina is probably the best cross state ride in the country.

I've been on numerous rides and CNC is  The Best. I've had the pleasure of talking with you a few times and finding you helpful, friendly and undaunted by any problem.
