hotels vs. camping

This is our first time and I was wondering whether to camp or hotel it.  Do you feel a bit removed from the event if you stay in hotels?  Does alot happen in camp after the ride? Does getting to hotels that are a few miles away involve riding in the dark and how late does it stay light in N. Carolina in October?  I have also run across the Pampered Pedalers with Bubba, how are riders experiences with him?

Staying in a hotel would take away from the fun.  The money would be better spent with Bubba.  Bubba will add to the excitement of the event, for sure.

I agree w/ B.S., I used motels once many years ago on another ride, and I felt like I "missed out" on much of the commeraderie of the week of cycling. But as they say, 'to each his own'.

You can go wrong w/ bubba. In 2003 after riding nearly all day in the rain, came into camp, our tents were all set up, and our bags were under a pavilion that Bubba comandeered. Bubba gathered everyone together and offered to take all of our wet clothing to a laundramat to dry it. Baby, that was worth the price of admission right there. And yes, I'll be using Bubba's service again this year.

I would offer another perspective.  I too have camped it on the CNC tour.  I also used Bubba’s services and yes he does a fantastic job.  If you decide to go the camping route I would highly recommend his services.  The real question is do you enjoy camping?  No amount of pampering is going to help if you don’t enjoy sleeping in a tent and showering in a truck.

Sue,

I would love to PAMPER you on CNC 2005 and show you the joys of camping.  Warning though, this service fills very fast so do not delay.  Either way, have a wonderful CNC and I will see you there.

I did the 2003 CNC and stayed in motels. Yes, you will miss some of the activities based upon on my experience. The bus service between the campground, activities, and motels was poor in many towns which was frustrating. The priority is on campers, so people who stay in motels have to largely fend for themselves. Having said that, there is no way I would have enjoyed staying in the muddy, wet campgrounds which were frequently encountered during 2003. Whatever your choice, you will make new friends and enjoy the experience if you keep your sense of humor.
