Laundry en route
Permalink Closed

Hello all, this is my first CNC and I'm wondering if there are laundry opportunities along the route when some of those synthetic fabrics start getting a bit ripe.

BRAG has had layover days where you can buy the washing of a bag of laundry, I found a better plan was to scope out a town we stop in by using Google or Yahoo! to find a laundromat with reasonable distance of the camping spot.

   Thanks!

Some of us will pack a week worth of jerseys/shorts into zip lock bages and not worry about the laundry thing. Other than that, you are on the right tract by trying to locate a laundry close to each night's camp site and either biking or walking to laundry mat when you get to camp that afternoon.

I saw someone a while back recommend showering with your clothes on in the beginning to give them a good washing.

showering with clothes on may not be a good idea if there is a long line at the shower trailer? When I do that, it takes me twice as long to get me and the shorts and socks smelling good.

Normally, the shuttle routes include a laundry, or a shopping center that has one. I have usually planned such a stop about mid-week since so many extra layers are required for CNC that one can't fit a weeks worth of clean cloths in two bags.

I have jumped into the shower clothed after many a Florida ride to wash off the crusted salt, and also to rinse my helmet. I also sometimes have to wash the hydration pack to get the salt crust off of it.

I guess a shuttle somewhere in midweek will do the trick. Another poster neatly answered the question why, which is because after a while the luggage bags get too big. Also, sweaty clothes that ferment a few days will grow legs, get up and start scampering around.

On my first BRAG I discovered that a length of string is very handy for setting up a campground clothesline for drying jerseys, and I still thank the person who provided me about 12 feet of string off of a roll. I also learned to not rinse clothes and put them on a piece of farm machinery to dry, unless you like rust stains.

CNC has seldom had enough dry weather for drying cloths other than in a laundry. (I always HAVE a line with some cloths pins but...........  Warm cloths are also harder to hand wash and they often dry slower.
