I have to personally thank REI for their involvement in this event. Without them, I and many others would have had days that ended on a SAG wagon due to equipment problems. The guys and gals in the REI tents always seemed like they were enjoying every minute of their time and were professionals at their tasks. I think this really shows what kind of company REI is and what they are all about. They truly help to make outdoor adventures that much better. Many people on the ride had never heard of REI, I'm sure new fans abound now.
As part of Durham's Z squad, I must agree. I would've had to give up the final couple of days if REI hadn't gotten me back on the road. As it turned out, I was able to ride every mile.
Hey, make sure you go to www.rei.com and reiterate your kudos.
My ex-wife used to work at REI and supporting CNC costs a huge amount of money. The merchandise they sell at CNC doesn't even begin to cover the personnel and equipment costs. So, every year the powers that be put it on the chopping block.
The NC stores have sucessfully lobbied to keep it each year, but it is never a done deal!
So, whether you are an REI member or not (and if you aren't it is only $15 for a lifetime membership...) send them your compliments and appreciation.
