Hey Gang I hope you will all join me in extending well wishes and a rapid recovery to Kenneth Wallace from Oriental, NC. Kenneth went down Day 6 on the roads of Wayne County as we road from Smithfield into Kinston. Unfortunately his accident occurred as a consequence of touching wheels while riding in a paceline. In addition to going into an immediate seizure and sustaining a concussion upon impact with the ground, I'm told his internal injuries include a 8 broken ribs and a broken scapella. External injuires were minor if any without blood exposure or torn skin. Once again, the helment saved the day. "Luckily" he was the only one that went down and there were no cars involved. Tragic this accident happened period, nevertheless one day prior to Tour completion. Thanks to Justin, Stanley and a host of others that came to his rescue to help stabilize him then stood by until County paramedics arrived and evacuated him to a nearby hospital.
If anyone has any contact information for Kenneth, please pass it along. Otherwise our hearts extend to your family during this time of need and we wish your recovery Godspeed! I'm told there were several other accidents that transpired that day and throughout the week, although I'm unsure of their severity. Nevertheless, I wish to express equal concern and rapid recovery for all affected riders.
I too extend my wishes for a full and quick recovery, and that Kenneth will be back on the bike before long. I feel sure that's where he'd like to be, on two wheels again.
Vernon-i gave my business card to Kenneth's wife and asked her to email me with updates on his condition. I will let you know when i hear anything. Big thanks to the bystanders who called 911 so quickly.
